CMOS Reset on The Fly

*WARNING!!* Do this at your own risk Benchaddix.com nor I take responsibility for any damage caused to your hardware or software when doing this mod you are doing this AT YOUR OWN RISK.

When overclocking you might push your hardware to far and need to reset your cmos but I can tend to be a hassle with having to remove the side of your case and trying to get a hold of the cmos jumper or on some boards having to come up with a cmos jumper and getting it on the pins, well this mod is to make life just a little easier it isn’t very hard so even the beginner can do it.

Supplies needed.

-Soldering Iron

-One switch with on and off capabilities

-One audio in cable from cd-rom

-Solder

-Hot glue gun with glue stick *optional*

Ok now that we got the stuff lets see what we got

First thing you need to do is look at your cd-rom audio input cable you will notice that it goes red, black, empty, white what you want to do is take a thumb tack or a paper clip and remove the white wire and move it over to the empty slot right next to the black wire *see picture below*

Now that this is done you need to cut the other end of the cd-rom audio input cable off.  Now that this is down you need to strip each wire the red, black, and white one just a little bit you don’t want to strip it down really low as you don’t want the wires to touch and short out your mobo. *see picture*

After doing this you need to plug your soldering iron in and let it warm up if you don’t have a soldering iron I recommend this very nice one from Radio-Shack here is the link.  Once the soldering iron is nice and hot you must start attaching the wires to the switch, now I find it easier to add some solder to the contact on the switch before adding the wire. *see picture*

Now that you have done that touch the contact with the tip of your soldering iron so that the solder on the contact becomes liquid like and while holding the wire farthest away from the tip of the soldering iron as you can but still have control of where the wire goes, place the striped part of the wire on the contact and pull the soldering iron away wait three seconds or so for the solder to harden before moving your hand.  After that give the wire a little tug no need to yank it just a little tug to make sure the wire has good contact if not you need to try to re solder the wire back on the contact completely. Continue with the rest of the wires but make sure you put the wires on in the same order, as on the other plug if it was like mine it was red, black, and then white. *see picture*

After that you are now ready to hook it up on the motherboard, first thing you need to do is find and remove the old jumper from the save cmos position if you don’t know where it is located please read your manual as it will tell you where it is at if you don’t have a manual check on the manufactures site and download the pdf file and look in there for it.  Then plug the switch in where it was but make sure the red and black wires are in the save bios position and the white wire is on the other pin. *see picture*

Now you are done although I recommend using a hot glue gun and adding some hot glue to where you soldered the wires on just to make sure the wire don’t come loose and this is the final product : ) I hope you enjoy this simple mod as much as I did. *see picture*
